University CEU Cardenal Herrera: Going back to the roots of teaching with Mixed Reality

The student profile is not the same as it was two decades ago, but educational models are not evolving at the same pace. The implementation of mixed reality in the teaching curriculum allows to improve the learning of skills such as problem solving, collaboration and preparing students for the future.

Challenge

The CEU Cardenal Herrara University wanted to launch a new educational model that would rescue the essence of learning between teacher and student thanks to the implementation of the latest technology.

The goal was to improve the learning process of the center, offering unique and meaningful experiences for the students. Thus, the university relied on Plain Concepts and Evergine to develop this Mixed Reality solution.

Main features

In order to avoid a model based on taking notes and memorizing information just to pass the exams, it was decided to introduce HoloLens 2 as the center of the process.

An application based on Evergine was created and thanks to the Mixed Reality glasses, students could launch the viewer and interact freely with the environment without any complexity.

Students and teachers can visualize the model in real-time and scale, making the relevant changes, while the rest of the class can see it on the classroom screen. This way, they participate actively in the correction.

Results

  • Totally immersive experience never seen before.
  • Exponential scalability and extrapolation to many degrees.
  • You can perceive the nuances and live a more real experience.
  • Possibility of making annotations to, later, continue with the design.
  • Practical and useful teaching.
